Class 1 - Spring Term 2015
Signs of Spring 16.3.15
This week class one have been looking for signs of spring.......we found some - buds on the trees and bushes, flowers growing, crocus, daffodils and daisies, blossom on the trees and the sound of the birds singing.
We then thought we would like to capture these spring signs by doing some observational drawing. We had to look carefully and draw what we saw, choosing the right colours and shapes.
We used watercolours, oil and chalk pastels, pens and pencils. It was a lovely sunny day and we really enjoyed looking at each other's works of art. Come and have a look at our spring display in the classroom.
World Book Day 5th March 2015
This week in class one we have been celebrating World Book Day.
We invited the nursery children over to our classroom to share some of our favourite books with them. They were very good at listening.
We all brought in our favourite books from home. We carefully looked at the front covers, noticing where the title, author and illustrators names were. Next we drew the front covers making sure we included all the information. We will make a display of our work for everyone to see.
We also shared our favourite page or part of the story we had chosen. We got chance to ask questions about the different books, the characters, settings and story plots. We also did some 'hot seating' pretending we were the characters ourselves, adding voices and expression!
We all Love books!!!!
This week in Class 1. 23rd February 2015
This week in class 1 we have been finding out how we use water in our homes and school.
We walked around looking for the ways in which we use water ...... Toilets, sinks, dishwasher, kettles, water fountains, mop and buckets.
We then looked in our home corner and found all the items that use water.....iron, that was a surprise, washing machine, different types kettles, sinks. We were surprised by how many things use water and how much water we use every day.
This week in class 1. 9.2.15
This week we have been learning how to keep clean and safe.
We each made a ' happy hands are clean hands' puppet to remind ourselves to wash our hands at certain times so we don't spread any bad germs.
We made posters on the computers and put them around the school to reminds us when we need to wash our hands so we don't spread any bad germs.......before we eat our food, after we have been to the toilet, after we have coughed or blown our nose......we even made up a rhyme!
We then looked more closely at soap bubbles and how we can make them in different ways......stirring, mixing, whisking and blowing. It was lots of fun to see how big we could make them, it also smelled really nice!
We used the bubbles to make prints and decorated them with different media.
We also made bubble machines.......we had really clean hands by the end!
This week class 1 have been acting out water based stories. We worked in groups to choose a story and think of a ways to act out that adventure.
First we identified the setting of the story and thought about how we could create it, finding and making props and backdrops.
Next we thought about the characters and how we could dress up to be like them.....a rainbow, Pirates, animals and a rain drop!
Finally we acted out our stories for the rest of the class to watch.....they were very good.
We then learnt about rainbows and found different ways to create them...we really enjoyed outside together
Then we looked at the different patterns on some of the animals that went into the ark. We matched up the two halves of different patterns and found the name of the animal.
We looked at pictures of the ark and sketched one out to make a collage.
We then cut out strips of paper to represent planks of wood...and worked in groups to finish the collage. Come and have a look at our display.
This week class 1 has been learning about Noah's Ark.
....and invited the animals on board, two by two.
We then tested out our boats........
We used the materials to start constructing our boats. We worked in groups, listening to each other and trying out different ideas.
This week we listened to the bible story, ' Noah's ark'. We worked together in forest school to collect materials to make our own ark.
The Water Cycle
This week class 1 have been learning poems and rhymes on the theme of water.
We spotted the rhyming words in the poems and noticed they had a beat and a rhythm when we started to recite them.
Next we thought about how we could add actions to the words to make it more interesting to perform…..
…… then to create another dimension we thought how we could use different sounds to give more meaning to the texts – we used instruments and our voices.
Finally we put all the elements together to perform our poems and rhymes.
6th January 2015
This week class 1 has been investigating water.
We have been researching the topic on the computers, reading information books and looking at photographs and pictures.
We collected our information together and presented it as posters.
