Class 2 Spring 2015
Problem Solving
Year 1 and 2 have been solving problems as part of maths learning. We had to think of ways we could explain clearly how we would work out the number of presents a teddy had as it got older each year. Some of us found patterns in our findings too!
Science - Dissolving
Year 1 and 2 have been investigating which substances dissolve in water.
We tested flour, sugar, salt, sand and gravel.
100ml of water was carefully measured for each test and one teaspoon of each substance was used to make our investigations fair each time.

When we had collected our findings for each test, we recorded the results carefully.
World Book Day - Thursday 5th March 2015
On Thursday 5th March, class 2 took part in some shared reading with class 4 children.
Water Safety
This week class 2 have been learning about water safety. We have learnt about all the different places we can find water and how we can stay safe in them. These are some water safety posters showing some of the things we need to remember!
Science - Waterproof Materials
As part of our continued science work to explore materials, we investigated which materials would be the most waterproof.
Maths
This week Class 2 have been practising addition skills.
We used the Cuisenaire equipment. Each colour represents a different number. After working out the values carefully, we added two amounts together to find totals of two digit numbers.

Computing
We have learned how to program Beebots, a moving toy, as part of our computing curriculum.
First we estimated how many steps and turns Beebots would need to travel to go around the edge of a book.

Science Materials Investigation
We have been investigating which materials are the most absorbent.
To make our test fair, we used the same amount of water each time. This linked to our recent maths capacity work as we measured 20ml of liquid using the syringe each time.

As part of our investigation we saw what happens to carpet if we accidentally spill water onto it!
One of the materials we tested was a tissue. This went soggy very quickly when it soaked up the water! We decided this was not the best choice of towel for mopping up any spillages!
The school paper towels worked well, but we're not as good as the blue dishcloth which left the table almost dry.
The hand towel was the most effective at soaking up the water quickly and easily. This was our favourite choice for cleaning spillages up!
We learned a lot from our investigation and loved finding out the new things together through our exploration!
Finally we put our choices in order and recorded our results.
