Class 3 Spring Term 2015
Fairtrade Fortnight
Diane Woolridge from Wrockwardine Deanery joined us in school to introduce Fairtrade Fortnight. We took part in some fun activities including how to identify the Fairtrade symbol. We found out the proportion of money that the workers, farm owners, exporting companies, importing companies and supermarkets receive from the sale of bananas.
Greek Orthodox Church, Shrewsbury
On Monday 2nd February Class 3 and 4 visited the Greek Orthodox Church in Shrewsbury. We were greeted by Father Stephen and his helpers.
We had an extremely interesting visit and we were able to explore the similarities and differences between the Greek Orthodox Church and St Lucia's Church in Upton Magna.
As part of our topic on water, Father Stephen explained how the members of the church celebrate baptism. One of the photographs shows the font at the back of the church.

Class 3 and pre-school take part in a weekly reading session
Reflections
Class 3 have been studying reflections as part of our topic on water. We have explored the paintings of different artists. We studied the painting Regatta at Argenteuil by Claude Monet, looking at the techniques the artist used.
These photographs show the first stage of us creating our own Monet inspired paintings. We used a watercolour wash for the background. Look out for the finished product!

Team Building
Class 3 are team building. We are taking part in Cup Stack. The group are not allowed to touch the cups with their hands. The idea is to build a tower using only string and an elastic band!
The hardest part is not giving up when things get tough or frustrating. We really had to work together to achieve our goal without giving up.

'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' installation at the Tower of London.
Eloise very kindly brought into Class 3 a ceramic poppy which had been part of the 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' installation at the Tower of London. This marked the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War. Created by the artists Paul Cummins and Tom Piper, 888,246 ceramic poppies filled the Tower's moat. Each poppy represents a British or colonial soldier who died during WW1.
We enjoyed looking (carefully!) at the poppy, especially as we had researched about how they were made on the Internet for our work on Remembrance Day.
