Class 1 - Autumn Term 2015
This week in class 1. 14.12.15
This week class one has been having fun with Christmas activities. We made reindeer food to sell at the Christmas fair. We had to carefully measure out the ingredients so we got the mixture right for the reindeers - we used a pot as a capacity measure.
We also made some Christmas lanterns. We had to fold our paper in half and cut out shapes to make a pattern. We covered them with different coloured film and decorated them before we rolled them into a cylinder shape. We finally added a handle.... They looked really pretty.
We also had a special visitor......it was a good job we had worked hard at school this term as he brought us some presents!
Class 1 Forest School
This week we have been lighting fires and cooking marshmallows, yum!!
Our new 'mud kitchen'.
Christingle Candles
This week class 1 and 2 joined together to make Christingle candles for a service at St Lucia's church on Sunday.
We used oranges to represent the world and 4 sticks to represent the four corners of the world.
We used oranges to represent the world and 4 sticks to represent the four corners of the world.
Next we put 3 sweets on the sticks to show the holy trinity and a candle in the top to show God is the light of the world.
Finally we put a red ribbon around the orange to show that Jesus died for us. The candles will be lit on Sunday 6 th December to celebrate the Christian service of Christingle.
This week in class 1. 16.11.15
This week we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have been investigating how we can use them to make rockets!
We used cylinders, cuboids, cubes and cones......
We had space casuals, rocket blasters, seats, stearing mechanisms, landing and take off pads and we even thought about what food you might have to take with you to survive.
We each designed and made our own rockets, choosing the best 3D shapes we thought would be the strongest. Next week we are going to test them and see how far they will fly, 3, 2, 1 blast off!
This week in class 1. 9.11.15

This week class 1 went on a trip to Shrewsbury Museum. We went back in time to the Stone Age and looked at how people lived and survived as well as some of the animals that were around at the same time.
Next we went back to Tudor times and investigated their clothes, homes and lifestyle.
Then we thought about how we could use our 'museum experiences' to create our own adventures by making story boards with Lego. We worked in groups to make the start, middle and end of a story.
We then shared our stories with the rest of the class.
This week in class 1. 12.10.15
This week we have been learning about space. We used the information books to research the different planets and studied globes and atlases to learn more about our planet, Earth.
We used Google earth and the Internet to find different countries around the world. We looked closely and found different parts of the world were covered in snow and ice, sand, forests, grass and water. It was interesting to find out about the different countries we had visited on our holidays and where some members of our families live, often a very long way away.
Next we started to use the information we had found to make our own representations of the different planets.
Saturn, Mars, Earth .....we are going to put them into our ' space ' role play area in the class room, come and have a look.
This week in class 1. 5.10.15
This week we developed our 'Harvest Shop'. We set up a bank and looked carefully at the value of the coins and which ones we needed to select to buy the items we wanted. We also set up a 'checkout' point to pay for our vegetables and used the tubs as shopping bags.
The next day we used the vegetables to make a healthy, harvest soup. We peeled, chopped and cut the vegetables up into small pieces. Some were easier than others to cut and the onions made our eyes water! We didn't give up though, we all worked together to get the job done.
We then placed all the ingredients into the soup maker, added a little bit of cold water and seasoning, then waited for 20 minutes for it to cook....... It was really hot when it was cooked and all the solid vegetables had gone liquid and smooth, they looked very different, but tasted delicious!
This week in class one 28.9.15
This week we have been looking for signs that autumn has arrived. We looked for changes around the school grounds and collected evidence that autumn is on the way. We found the leaves were changing colour and falling off the trees, spiky conker shells with shiny, brown cookers bursting out, lots and lots of acorns on the grass waiting to be collected by the squirrels.
We made a collage with all the autumn things we collected and used the watercolour paints to represent autumn trees, looking carefully for the colours we actually observed when we were on our walk.
We also investigated autumn vegetables. We used our senses to explore the inside and outside of the different vegetables, looking closely at the shapes, Colours and texture we experienced. We used oil pastels to represent what we observed. We will check next week to see what has happened to the vegetables after we cut them open.
We also wanted to find out which vegetables were the heaviest and lightest. We noticed that the larger items weren't always the heaviest but the vegetables that were solid all the way through weighed more than the vegetables that had a hollow inside where the seeds were.
We also started to set up a harvest shop, putting price lables on the vegetables, setting up the till and sorting out the different coins. We will carry on with this next week!
This week in class 1. 21.9.15
This week have been thinking about food that aliens might eat! We had lots of creative ideas......green alien spaghetti, bugs and slugs, gloop and slime.....yummy?
We then thought about what type of biscuits aliens might like and used the play dough to make some designs.
We then made our own biscuits. We weighed and measured, sieved, stirred, rubbed and mixed our ingredients until we had made a dough.
Next we rolled, patted and cut out our biscuit shapes and put them to cook.
Finally we decorated them. We took one home and left one to sell at the coffee morning on Friday.
This Week in Class 1 14.9.15
This week we have been reading 'Aliens Love Underpants' story. We have made masks and been acting like aliens from another planet!
We have been drawing, painting and creating our own alien characters and space ships, come and see our display in the classroom.
We turned crates into spaceships and used chalks to make space dust and different planets to land on.
This Week in Class 1 8.9.15
This week we have been learning about patterns.....
We also worked outside to make a repeating pattern with the blocks and chalk.
We have copied patterns using different sized bears and carried on patterns with two colours.
