Class 1 - Summer Term 2017
This week in class 1
This week we went to visit Shrewsbury museum. We found some very interest and old things.
We also followed the footprints around the museum to find the different rhymes.
There was also a lot of fun activities to do.
Finally we listened to a story teller. She told us about a woolly mammoth and lots of animals in a box! It was a very busy day but lots of fun.
This week in class 1. 3.4.17
This week we had a visitor in class 1. Rachael from Tesco's showed us how much sugar was in the Easter eggs we might be eating in the holidays. In 8 small Easter eggs (the average amount of eggs a child will eat at Easter) there is 815g of sugar! The daily recommended amount is just 5 teaspoons. We then tasted milk, dark and white chocolate and found out white chocolate has the most sugar in. Most of us liked the milk chocolate best.
Our week in class 1. 27.3.17
This week we have been playing the musical instruments. We worked together to play songs and make up our own tunes.
We found video clips on the Internet to find out about different instruments and discovered different ways to get sounds from them.
We even had a go at making our own!
Our week in class 1. 20.3.17
This week we have been practicing our fine motor skills. Developing our finger muscles will help us with our mark making and writing.
Twisting lids, stretching elastic bands, picking up and posting tiny items into containers, stacking and pushing small cubes together also helps our hand eye coordination, it's also a fun challenge!
Our week in class 1. 13.3.17
This week we have been learning about trains and telling the time. We made our own train and thought about when the train would leave and arrive. We found out it was important to know how to tell the time so you didn't miss your train!
Our week in class 1. 6.3.17
This week we went investigating signs of spring. We looked up to see buds growing on the trees and hedges and listened to hear the birds singing to each other.
We spotted lambs in the fields, daffodils growing and noticed how green the grass looked after all the grey of winter.
Back in class1 we created our own spring pictures and art work for our display board, come and have a look.
Our week in class 1. 6.2.17
This week we have been reading the 'Lighthouse Keeper' stories. We found out the Mr Grinling has his lunch sent to his lighthouse in a basket along a zip line! So we found and made our own baskets and zip line.
We acted out the story playing the different characters and pretending to be the 'pesky' seagulls stealing the food.
Our week in class 1
This week we have been reading the story 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch'. We found out that the lighthouse keeper gets to his lighthouse by boat, so we investigated boats! We got them to float down the pipes, sending it from the seashore to the lighthouse, made collages and stormy seascapes.
We learnt about Grace Darling and how she used boats to rescue people who had crashed on the rocks. She lived a long time ago in a lighthouse and was very brave, rowing a boat with her father to help people. We found out that this was the start of the lifeboat rescue service RNLI.
Our week in class 1. 15.1.17
For the last two weeks we have been investigating lighthouses.
We made models of lighthouses using 3D shapes, looking carefully at how they were constructed.
We also worked together to make a large models of the classroom and in our outside area.
We also found out every lighthouse is different and we designed our own. We then had to decide what we were going to use to make them. There was a lot of problem solving to workout how to make them stable and them how to decorate them. We had tall ones, narrow ones, short ones and wide ones - Come and have a look at our display in the classroom!
Our week in class 1. 9.1.17
This week we investigated winter. We made snowflakes, decorated them and used chalks and charcoal to make snow pictures. We also observed how the trees have changed since the autumn, we thought they looked like skeletons without their leaves on!
We used the watercolour paints to paint the winter sky and background in our tree pictures. We then waited for them to dry and then used pens to carefully draw on the 'skeleton' trees. Come and have a look at our display of art work in the classroom.
Our week in class 1. 4.1.17
This week we wrapped up warm and went for a winter walk. Our feet left footprints on the frosty grass and our shadows were really long. We found 'Jack Frost' had been everywhere and we used sticks to make marks in it.
When we got back to the classroom we investigated winter. We found stories, materials that looked like frost and ice, designed our own patterns on hats, scarves and gloves, we even had some fake snow and snowflakes to examine!
We also carried out a winter experiment. We filled up some moulds with water and left them out over night, what would happen?
The next morning we found they had frozen solid into......ice. They were very cold and slippy! We left them out in the warm sun during the day and found the ice slowly melted back into water, a liquid.
