Hi everyone,
We’ve been working super hard over the last two weeks learning about MISTAKES!
We all make mistakes and it’s pretty incredible what we can learn from them.
The world would be a very different place if Christopher Columbus, the Kellogg brothers and Alexander Fleming hadn’t made their amazing mistakes. (have you read about them in History’s Amazing Mistakes?)
The children in class wanted to show you What we’d been doing and how things are working in school so they’ve made four little clips for you to watch. We hope you enjoy them.
Why don’t you write to Class 2 and let us know what you are doing.
Be careful in the sunshine.
Love from
Mrs Collins

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all enjoyed a beautiful, sunny half term!
Did you manage to see the launch of the SpaceX rocket on Saturday? It was amazing, frightening, exciting and mind blowing, all at once.
My whole family stood outside at 10.10pm that night and watched the International Space Station(ISS) go over ( it was one of the clearest views we've had for a long time). Theoretically, 5 minutes later we should have been able to see the Dragon Crew capsule as it raced to catch up with the ISS but instead we saw a meteorite, which was great, but we didn't manage to spot the capsule.
Inspired by space travel our next two week block of work has to be "out of this world!" . Earth, Moon, planets, stars, rockets and of course astronauts are all out there to make us think, wonder and imagine.
The Year One children who are coming back into Class 2 will also be looking at this work.
Our classroom looks a little different, with fewer tables and furniture. Lots of equipment has had to be put away safely but it is going to be so much fun to actually have children back in it.
So whether you are at home or at school over the next couple of weeks take some time to look up into space, marvel at the moon, be stunned by the sun, be amazed by the astronauts and be inspired by Earth.

Hello everyone,
Thank you so much for the letters you have been writing to me. It sounds as if you have all been super busy. I am really impressed by the number of you who are doing exercise online, walking and riding bikes; keeping fit is so important. Wouldn't it be great if we could continue to do some of the Joe Wicks workouts when we are all back in school together?
Your suggestions about the outside area have also been inspiring. It appears that you would like it to be COLOURFUL!!!! (like a 🌈). Encouraging wildlife has also been a theme in many of your designs, through planting and making homes for birds, insects and animals.
I now know why it's been so tricky to find flour.....it's because you have all become fantastic bakers! I'm determined to get some cookery into our classroom just so that you can show me your best recipes.
You've probably noticed that the activities I put online this week are all maths based. I hope they get your maths brains exercising. I'd love you to see which maths vocabulary you remember and get practising it. The daily bitesize programs are great, aren't they! I've also discovered the fantastic HOMESCHOOL HISTORY podcasts, they are delivered by Greg Jenner who wrote the Horrible Histories books. There's a quiz at the end for you to do! You can find out whether Charles Dickins did Joe Wicks workouts and why he had to go to work in a factory at 12 years old!
Have a good half term holiday.
Be good.

Dear Class 2,
I hope you are all well and keeping active and busy. There has been the most beautiful Super Moon shining down on us all, this week. It’s called the Flower Moon. It’s so bright because it’s orbit is bringing it close to planet Earth.
( Draw a circle to represent Earth then draw an oval / ellipse around it. The ellipse shows the orbit of the Moon and you can see that sometimes it is much closer to Earth, this is when we see a big, bright and beautiful Super Moon).
Are you ready to celebrate VE Day? We have our bunting up! It was a little longer than we expected. (take 100 big steps - which is approximately 100m—that’s the length of our bunting!) You might hear Winston Churchill’s speech during the day. I wonder who can do the best Winston Churchill impression in your house?
I hope you have been able to do some of the VE Day activities and find learning about Winston Churchill interesting.
Enjoy whatever you are doing and don’t forget to SMILE.

Dear all,
I hope you are enjoying the change from 🌞 to ☔. I like that it's making the garden look happier and it's been fun to get out in my rather brightly coloured wellies, but I rather hope that it doesn't stay rainy for too long.
Did you manage to celebrate St George's Day? I went over the hill for a walk, from the very top I could see two churches and one was flying St George's flag. (Despite looking carefully, I didn't see a single dragon though 🤔)
How did you get on with the 'rainbow' activities?
How about finishing off your work by making this Thursday 's clap for the NHS a little different? You could make your own instrument to play, make up a dance or rhyme, create a 🌈 bunting.
For the next fortnight I've put together some activities about VE Day and Winston Churchill. Hope you enjoy them!
I've order 100 metres of bunting to decorate my house for the village street party on the 8th of May. It should be fun to sit on the bunting filled drive, having a picnic ( probably under an umbrella) and shouting to our neighbours.
Be kind to yourselves and your families. Keep smiling and the sun will be back soon.

JOHN LEWIS & WAITROSE LAUNCH SOFT TOY DESIGN COMPETITION TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE NHS
THURSDAY 23 APRIL 2020
With homeschooling recommencing across the nation, the retailer is inviting children (and adults) to create and share their designs for a “super-bear” cuddly toy that celebrates the spirit and fortitude of the fearless men and women working on the frontline during the Covid-19 crisis.
The winning design will be turned into an exclusive Christmas toy and sold by Waitrose and John Lewis from October, following in the footsteps of a number of beloved characters from the retailer.
Martin George, Marketing Director for the John Lewis Partnership, comments: “The acts of gratitude demonstrated by the public towards frontline workers, from the thousands of “thank you” pictures to Thursday evening clapping, shows how deep our nation’s love for the NHS goes. We’ve already been supporting the NHS and critical workers in a number of ways, but we want to make a lasting contribution that demonstrates our appreciation for those who are on the front line.
“We hope this competition will help inspire the nation’s children to put pencil to paper and encourage many to submit their creations, while helping us give something back to our wonderful National Health Service and frontline workers.”
The competition, which launches on April 24, marks the start of the “Feel Good Friday” campaign, designed to bring the nation together in a time of isolation.
Every Friday, Waitrose & John Lewis will focus on one skill or pastime, all in service of helping people enjoy a shared interest, learn something new and creating stronger relationships within local communities.
Working with Partners, celebrity experts, a range of charities and the NHS, this will include everything from gardening, arts and crafts, mindfulness, to baking and fitness.
This follows a number of initiatives already launched by the John Lewis Partnership to support critical emergency workers during this time, from setting aside a proportion of hard-to-find and everyday essential items during periods of low stock and opening dedicated tills, to installing a wellbeing area for medical staff and volunteers at the Nightingale NHS Hospital in London.

Dear all,
It's St George's Day. We had imagined that today we would all be working together ❤ on a day full of dragons, with drama and art activities based on last terms work. Sadly, Class 2 is a very silent and still place without you all but why don't you celebrate the day with your family. You ARE dragons experts after all!
Make yourself a flag of St George, dress up, create a dragons cave, performing a play with your family, Lego figures, puppets or teddies, or just sit quietly and write a story about St George. Whatever you decide to do remember that when we all get together again in Class 2 you will have fabulous memories to share.
We hope you are enjoying home schooling. The weather has been so beautiful that working outside has been inspiring. (I have never seen so many birds, butterflies, bees and bugs! )
Keep up the good work, look after each other and yourselves.
