CLASS 3 SPRING TERM 2018
Sports Week
The last week of term was Sports Week and we were certainly very busy taking part in a wide range of sports.
We listened to an assembly about fencing and we watched a demonstration.
We ran around a half kilometre track as many times as we could in fifteen minutes on three different days.
Class 3 took part in Bikeability training with Gill and Hannah from Shropshire Council.
We took part in our swimming lessons and worked on water safety activities such as treading water and attracting the attention of a person on the side.
We also had a fantastic tennis session with Mike from High Ercall Tennis Club.

French Breakfast
Class 3 enjoyed the recent French breakfast with Madame Morecroft. We baked delicious croissants and pain au chocolat. We also enjoyed baguettes and jam and to drink we were treated to chocolat chaud.
Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Madame Morecroft as she is retiring. A big thank you for all the fun, games and songs during our French lessons.

Science
In Science we have been investigating circuits as part of our topic on electricity. These photographs show our work on setting up a circuit to investigate which materials conduct electricity. If the material conducts electricity then the bulb will light up.
Mental Wellbeing
We were very lucky to be able to welcome students Heather and Ellie from Shrewsbury Sixth Form. They worked with us to help us to understand friendship and what it takes to make a good friend. Thank you to Heather and Ellie for all your hard work.
British Values Morning
We have given a great deal of thought about new names for our school houses. We came up with a shortlist with ideas from the whole school. We then voted and the winning choice was precious stones. We are going to call our new houses Emerald, Sapphire, Diamond and Ruby.
We then debated the question: Should brothers and sisters be in the same house?
Class 3 presented arguments for and against this in assembly and the the whole school had a democratic vote. The results showed that most children thought that brothers and sisters SHOULD be in the same house.
In Class 3 we talked about voting and democracy as part of our morning.

World Book Day
We had a fantastic time on World Book Day dressing up as book characters. See if you can work out which characters we are!
RAF Cosford Visit
We had a wonderful day at RAF Cosford. The first stop was the Spirit of the Blitz workshop. We looked at WW2 artefacts including gas masks and we talked about the role of the ARP warden. We then looked around hanger one and then the Cold War display including the highlight....the shop!
After lunch we visited War in the Air where we looked at aeroplanes from WW2 and the exhibition. We also had a brilliant time in the Fun 'n' Flight interactive gallery where we were able to investigate science and flight.

Archery
We enjoyed a fun session of archery which was kindly provided by The Friends. A big thank you to them for giving us the opportunity to experience archery in school.
World War 2 Artefacts Box
We loaned a box of artefacts from the library. The objects included warm clothing to wear in an air raid shelter, a gas mask, a wooden rattle used to warn of a gas attack, tins of powdered eggs and dried milk and a hurricane lamp for use in a shelter. We drew the artefacts and discussed what they would have been used for. It was a great hands on experience.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Welcome to Narnia
We have been working on some dramas linked to the first chapter of the story when Lucy goes through the wardrobe. We hot seated some of the characters which means that they had to answer questions in character. This will help with a piece of extended writing we will be working on.
Human Skeleton
We welcomed Mr Bones to Class 3 for work on the human skeleton. We looked at the functions of a skeleton and named the major bones. Unfortunately he has now returned back to the Library Service.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue
We had a very interesting visit from Sam. We discussed fire alarms and how to get out of a building safely in the event of a fire. Sam asked us to think about making an escape plan for use at home in the unlikely event of a fire. Thank you to Sam for providing us with some very useful information and for answering all of our questions.
RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch
Once again Class 3 are taking part in the RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch. We have been making fat cakes to feed the birds by following a recipe.
Here we are taking part in the RSPB Birdwatch. This is the third year that we have been involved. We are collecting scientific data and then submitting our results to the RSPB where it wIll be added to other results from across the country and used to find out about trends in bird populations. We have enjoyed feeding, observing, recording and identifying birds for the last few weeks.
Severn Trent Water
