CLASS 4 AUTUMN TERM 2020
Harvest
Class 4 have been exploring Harvest through key values.
Gardening, growing fruit and vegetables and the story of Adam and Eve showed us 'patience'.
Fishing and harvesting from the ocean helped us consider 'peace'. We also needed our patience to create the origami boats!
Joy and love were the next two values. The joy of both giving and receiving were discussed and also how important it is, especially in these challenging and uncertain times, to show love to others.

Alternative Sports Day
We held an alternative sports day, with three new teams: Custard Creams, Oreos and Digestives!
Each 'bubble' competed against others from their 'bubble'!
Mrs Bennion kept the score (as is traditional), and Custard Creams were victorious.
Participation trophies were awarded in each key stage.
Refreshments were supplied by the 'Friends' - thank you.
We had a lovely afternoon.

Good morning Class 4,
It’s the last week of term, so we are saying ’goodbye’ to our year 6 children. Hopefully, their memories will appear as video clips soon. (You will find it hard to believe that I had a technical issue trying to send them to Mrs. Davies!) It has been challenging to find ways to try to do many of our usual ‘leavers’ activities, but we have done our best!
As I am writing this, the tournament on TTrockstars is showing Class 4 to be winning. However, Class 3 have been making a great effort too—especially some of the year 3 boys. Thank you to the 6 members of year 5 who have so far contributed to Class 4s total—that is less than 50% again, which is disappointing. It will be interesting to see who knows all their multiplication facts up to 12 x 12 with instant recall (a national expectation for the end of year 4).
This week, it would be a great idea for you to complete the following to help you evaluate the year.
Thinking about ‘academic’ areas:
This year, I have improved with…….because…..
At school, I consider that my strengths are…..because….
I am proud of …. because….
My favourite subject (s) at school is/are…. because….
At school, I would like to improve/get better at…. because….
Thinking about the kind of person you are and how you treat others:
The best thing about me is…. because…
I would like to improve/get better at ….. because
What type of contribution to the class have you made this year?
Identify three targets to ensure you make a positive start back at school in the Autumn (One personal, one academic and one social)
Year 5s—please bring your evaluations when we return to school in September. I look forward to reading them. Keep reading over the summer and use TTrockstars a couple of times a week. I will see you in September.
Year 6s—it has been lovely to be able to work with you in school over the last 6 weeks. I’m sorry we haven’t been able to do many of the usual ‘leavers’ activities. You have shown great maturity and consideration for one another and ‘made the best’ of things.
To all of year 6—Mrs. Broome and I wish you every success in your new schools. We will miss you.
Have a wonderful summer holiday and stay safe.

Hi Class 4,
Well, it’s heading rapidly towards the end of the Summer Term. The year 6 children will have 2 more weeks at St. Lucia’s before they head off to their secondary schools in September.
The ‘Random Acts of Wildness’ (#30DaysWild) has now finished. We did Random Act of Wildness 30 in school and you can see some of our work in the photographs below. We also created some Aztec Sun patterns to go with them. Perhaps you could have a go at one of these at home this week.
The English activity on the blue tab this week is linked to reading—it’s July, so we need a new monthly activity! This one is about Captain Tom Moore (who has since been awarded a knighthood). Why don’t you create an information sheet about someone who you admire, and then create a set of questions to go with it?
The TT rock stars tournaments again showed great effort from many of you —thank you to ALL of you who are taking part regularly. There are still some of you who are ’conspicuous by your absence’. Remember, the national expectation is that children should have instant recall of their multiplication facts up to 12 x 12 ready to start year 5! Just 5 minutes a day will help! This week, the tournaments will be Year 5 boys v Year 6 boys and Year 5 girls v Year 6 girls. I’m hoping it will be close, with everyone contributing to the overall scores. I wonder who will receive certificates this time? The maths this week is based on Countdown. Have a look at the blue tab for some examples and then try some of the suggested links. How are you doing with the Jumbo Tables Grid? Remember the target to beat is 88 correct in 3 minutes. It’s a different one this week on the blue tab.
On the Science tab this week, there are several activities to complete. You could send your answers to school—by post box, the admin email or a sibling!
Keep using your CGP books for a weekly ‘workout’ and make sure you are doing some exercise every day too. Remember you can continue to use White Rose, twinkl, BBC bitesize or any other materials which you find useful and interesting.
Be helpful and considerate at home. Stay safe and well.
I am having difficulty setting up the times tables for rockstars tournaments, so it might be a different tournament this week.

Hi Class 4,
Great to see so many of you back in school last week. It’s a bit different I know, but it must be good to catch up with your friends and see how things can work for us all. It’s hard to believe that this week it will be July!
The TT rock stars tournaments are very interesting—thank you to ALL of you who are taking part. As I am writing this letter, only 7 year 5 children have been competing in this week’s tournament. I am a little disappointed with this, as that’s only 50%. The national expectation is that children should know all their multiplication facts up to 12 x 12 ready to start year 5! I know that some of you do have instant recall of all of these, but by practising regularly, you ensure that you don’t forget them. Just 5 minutes a day will help! This week, the tournaments will be Year 5 boys v Year 5 girls and Year 6 boys v Year 6 girls, and I’m hoping it will be close. Everybody’s points are valuable, as you can see when you view the scores. Let us know if you have forgotten your user name or password. I wonder who will receive certificates this time? How did you get on with the Jumbo Tables grid? The record now is 88 correct answers in 3 minutes! (not me, obviously!) Look at the blue tab labelled Word Problems to check your use of the 4 number operations and written calculation methods. You could also look at nrich plants, shape times shape and more children and plants. You could also try transum.org and look at Car Park Puzzle. (it reminded me of how we have to move when we go out for break or lunch!)
The ‘Random Acts of Wildness’ (#30DaysWild) finishes on the 30th. We did Random Act of Wildness 25 in school and the last two for this week are on the blue tabs. Some of the year 6 ’landscapes’ are on the website. Year 6 wrote some great stories, using the sentence framework on class 4s page. How did yours compare? The English activity on the blue tab this week is linked to grammar and punctuation. Think carefully and use neat, joined handwriting when presenting your work.
I have enjoyed looking at the photographs which have been emailed to school, showing the activities you have been doing during your time at home. It’s great to see how so many of you have risen to the challenges presented and tried hard to keep up with your school work.
Keep using your CGP books for a weekly ‘workout’ and make sure you are doing some exercise every day too. Remember you can continue to use White Rose, twinkl, BBC bitesize or any other materials which you find useful and interesting.

Wow! Well done Class 4. The boys beat the girls, but it was pretty close. Thank you to every one of you who took part.
This week, year 6 v year 5. This morning, only one year 5 had been on. Year 6 were creating a good lead. Come on!!
Finally, year 6 have their hoodies. A huge thank you to Mrs. Lloyd and the 'Friends' for organising these.
