Shropshire Schools U-10s County Cup. 7th January 2015
After Losing our first game to Pontesbury 2-0 we managed a 0-0 draw to Prees before suffering further 2-0 and 1-0 losses in the return fixtures. The players worked so hard and were very unlucky not to score more goals, but it was good experience for the players who were playing teams that included mainly year 5’s. I was very impressed with our year 3 pupils; Harvey, Soloman and Adam. Harvey in particular made some excellent tackles and never worried about any of the bigger players he was up against. I think he might be one to watch. From year 4 we had Matt Pym who continues to develop into a good all round player who can play in a number of positions. Our year 5 pupils Sam Pryce, Hannah, Charlie and Rob all led by example. Hannah was excellent in defence and I was pleased that she didn’t worry about the lack of girls at the tournament. Charlie worked very hard up front, often playing against 2 defenders but never giving up. Sam Pryce ran all night long and had a number of shots well saved by the opposition keepers. He was a very important player for us. Finally we had Rob as our stand in keeper. With both of our Goalkeepers being in year 6 I had to ask Rob to have a go. He was outstanding throughout diving around all over the place. Unfortunately Archie Preece was ill on the day and didn’t get the chance to play. We missed him but hopefully he will be fit to play in the next tournament.
Overall it was an excellent team performance and you should all be proud of your efforts. I am looking forward to the Village Schools Finals on Wed 25th Feb, where the year 6s get their turn. See you all soon!
Thanks to all the parents who supported from the sidelines. Sorry we couldn’t get any goals for you!
