Class 4 Summer Term 2016
Pioneer Visit 2016
Class 4’s residential visit this academic year was to the Pioneer Centre in Cleobury Mortimer, to participate in a range of outdoor adventurous pursuits and team building activities.
The following ‘diary’ extracts give a flavour of why a residential visit is such an important part of Class 4’s year.
We considered our feelings both before and after the visit.
Before:
…..I will try my best in all activities and have a go at everything, whether it’s in my comfort zone or out of it. I will defeat my fears!
…. Staying over is always one of the best parts because you get to spend time with all your friends and ‘hang out’ during bedtime. We definitely won’t be having a midnight feast. (We are, but Mrs. Carroll doesn’t need to know that!)
……Hopefully I will sleep through the night because I am not confident. I probably will because I have friends there to help me sleep. My goal is to support others and try to do everything I can.
….I’m hoping to be able to climb higher than I’ve done before and that’ll be a real achievement for me.
…..I’ve always wanted to go somewhere like Pioneer. I’m going to give everything a go, EVEN if it’s a challenge. I’m not going to give up and I’m going to learn a lot about my strengths and weaknesses.

After:
…. I had the best three days ever! My class had a residential at the Pioneer Centre (ACUK). I loved it.
….. I didn’t think my leadership was great, but it helped the team along. Moreover, other people thought my leadership was good.
.… I learnt that I am no longer….Drum roll please…. Afraid of heights! Yay! I did abseiling with ease.
…it was epic; you had to use team-work to solve mysteries and challenges.
…..abseiling was really surprising, because I was scared about it. Whilst I was going up the stairs, I was crying. When I got to the top, I told Stephanie (one of the instructors) that I was really scared. She told me to sit down and lean back. I did. And there you have it, I was bouncing down the wall! Now it’s one of my favourite activities.
…. We had to get things for our beds and then we had to make them! It didn’t go too well. I couldn’t get the cover on the bed, so Kwaenoo helped me!
….there was one climbing wall where I nearly gave up, but with some advice from my team, I carried on!
…..the funniest time was raft building. I couldn’t get out of the pond in my buoyancy aid. So Jordan pulled me out, while everyone was laughing at me – including me!! Ha, ha!
…. I learned that wherever you go, you learn something about ‘you’. I learned that I liked caving and could trust Kwaenoo.
….finally, we had to go! A farewell from our instructors, and Kwaenoo picked three people to give them awards. I got one! It was so hard to leave. Why did we have to go? I learned so much: Anyo = hi and bye in Korean. I loved Pioneer!
….I have realised that I can ‘let myself go’ and manage to be seen by adults. I am very pleased with myself for abseiling because I am very scared of heights, but I still did it!
…..after we got back my mum gave me a huge hug and said how much she had missed me. I had the best time ever!

We made pain au chocolat and croissants, and then enjoyed them with a cup of chocolat chaud.
