This week we have been learning about the Chinese Lunar new year.

We found out that every year is related to an animal and this year is the year of the dragon. The celebration lasts for 15 days when families get together to celebrate.

People celebrate by eating lots of delicious foods, something different every day, giving presents (money), setting off fireworks and very loud drumming music for dragon and lion dancing. All the loud noises scare away any bad luck.

We also found out that red is a lucky colour and brings good fortune for the year ahead, so people dress in red and lots of red lanterns are hung around the house.

We made some concertina dragons and played lots of loud music to do our dragon dancing to, we think our class will have a lot of good luck this year!
