In Birch this term, our topic is Ancient Egypt. We had a brilliant day which started off looking at hieroglyphs and trying to write our own names in hieroglyphics (pretty tricky!). We then moved on to constructing a long boat from straws and wool, working in small groups and practising our knots. Next, we had an ancient Egyptian food tasting; children tried a range of foods that would have been common in Egypt at that time, including spring onions, radishes, dill, sourdough bread, figs, pomegranate seeds, and (the class’ favourite) dates. We also had a go at drawing pyramids. As always we had some fantastic costumes, thank you to all parents and carers who sent pharaohs, Cleopatra, cats, mummies and even the sun god Ra, into school!
