Birch class have already been busy this term investigating the way in which water is transported within plants. To set up our experiment, we used some red or blue food colouring and added it to a measuring jug of water. We then added a stick of celery and a white rose. We watched over a week to see how much of the water the plants drank and were excited to see the leaves of the celery sticks turn blue or red and to see the edges of the petals also change colour. We found out how the stem transports water up to the leaves and could clearly see it in action with the our experiment.
